The illustration highlights the various stages involved in the process of wool production. Overall it is a time-consuming process, starting with shearing sheep and ending with final wool products such as wool jackets.

Every year, farmers use electric razors to shear their sheep at the end of winter to collect their fluffy coats or fleeces. Next, the material is washed and cleaned to remove dirt and contaminants before being sent for the drying stage. Once it has been dried, it is spun into either first-rate long thin yarn or second-rate wool strings which can be recycled. The yarn is then twisted to form wool tufts, making it easier for wool to be transported or stored.

In the final stage, these tufts are made into balls of yarn dyed in various colours. Some of them can be sold directly to consumers who knit them into comfy scarves, sweaters or hats. Most wool tufts, however, ….
