It is undeniable that wild animals and birds make an indispensable part of the ecosystem. However, it is argued by some that too much attention and too many resources are given to the conservation of them. I disagree with this assertion and this essay will elaborate on my reasons.

Admittedly, there has been increased awareness of wild animal protection. International conservation organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund have successfully drawn public attention to the significance of protecting endangered species. In addition, a considerable number of national parks and nature reserves have been established across the globe to preserve natural habitats and biodiversity. Wildlife poaching and trafficking have also been outlawed in most countries.

However, I believe the current levels of awareness and resources given to the protection of wild animals and birds are not enough. Due to insufficient budget and personnel, a large number of conservation programs have failed to achieve their intended aims. In Vietnam, for example, despite several awareness campaigns run by WWF on social media and television, local people are still consuming products from wild animals such as tigers and bears for so-called traditional medicine practices.
