Do you like to learn about planets & stars?

I do. Learning about the universe and all its mysteries has remained the best way to satisfy my insatiable curiosity.  When I was a kid, I used to climb on the rooftop terrace of my house and watch the sky in solitude. I would let my imagination run wild and visualise how life could be going about on other planets.

Do you know much about stars and planets?

Well, despite being extremely fond of meteors, solar eclipses and the like, I suppose what I’ve learnt is just a drop in the ocean. I can tell the difference between a planet and a star, and the names of all planets in the solar system. I was thrilled to find out that a star emits its own light and twinkles while a planet doesn’t. 

Which star do you like the most?

Without a doubt, the sun is my all time favourite. It’s the closest star to our planet and also the source of energy for life on earth. Without the sun, there would be no light, no beauty and no wonders for us to admire.

Can you see the moon and the stars where you live?

Yes, from time to time. The level of air pollution in Hanoi is quite high so the sky is overcast most of the time, except for some clear summer days. However, whenever I come back to my hometown, I can see stunning night skies with billions of sparkling  stars. I could see the Milky Way with naked eye and spot several constellations.

Is star-gazing popular in your country?

I guess it’s not so common. In urban areas, due to light pollution and air pollution, the night sky is rarely clear enough for us to see the stars. Also, most people are now too busy chasing material things and have no time to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Have you ever taken a course about stars?

Not yet, but I definitely will if such courses are available in my city. We have a space centre and a new observatory in Hanoi but astrology & astronomy are still unfamiliar subjects to most of us.
