The benefits of international cooperation have remained a debatable / contentious argument. Some claim/ maintain that it is mainly beneficial for environmental protection while others assert that its major/ key advantages are for business. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and then I will give my own perspective.
On the one hand, global cooperation / the cooperation among nations can significantly improve the protection of the environment. When countries agree to reduce their carbon emissions to a low level and fulfill their commitments, air pollution and global warming will be alleviated. This cannot be achieved if major emitters do not participate in such effort/ agreements. Another pressing environmental issue that can be effectively addressed/ tackled with international cooperation is plastic pollution. Plastic waste is now prevalent in all oceans, posing a severe threat to marine biodiversity. It is difficult to track the origin of such wastes, and therefore countries should collaborate / work hand in hand / work together/ join the effort to clean up the waste.
On the other hand/ However, international cooperation can spur/ boost/ foster/ bolster economic development/ growth. Economic agreements between countries such as the free trade agreement can promote global trade. Exports and imports of most nations have increased / risen dramatically over the last decades, leading to the expansion of huge international corporations. This helps create / generate more employment opportunities and higher incomes for local people, especially in developing countries. Developed countries can also reap tremendous/ great benefits from global trade. Emerging economies such as China, India and Vietnam have become major/ strategic export markets for economically advanced nations such as Japan where domestic consumption has been decreasing steadily.
In conclusion, although the benefits/ advantages of global cooperation for environmental conservation are considerable, I believe it is mainly for economic benefits.
