  • Is spending time with family important? Why?

Absolutely. There is no way to maintain a close-knit bond between family members other than spending quality time with each other. This enables children to have stable upbringing and grow up happily, healthily and successfully. The future of children depends on their early years in which they learn important values directly from their parents. Family bonding is beneficial for adults too as they can achieve a healthy work/life balance. By cooking and sharing meals, doing chores and having fun together, people can relieve stress and recharge their energy after a hard-working day.

  • Do you think people are spending less time with their family? Why?

Totally. These days, both parents are getting busier to go after a successful career while children are spending more time at school for study or outside of their home for entertainment. As a result, they often come home late and rarely gather around the dining table for shared meals and chatting. Even when they are together, they might get distracted by TV or focused on their smart phones rather than talking to each other. So yeah, people are having less family time in terms of both quantity and quality.

  • What can young people learn from old people and vice versa?

Well, a lot actually. There are crucial values that children and young adults can learn from their parents or grandparents such as hard work, patience, resilience and resourcefulness. Young people on the other hand are suitable to teach old people how to use hi-tech gadgets or how to play and enjoy life. When people grow older, they tend to get worried more often and forget to have fun so it’s great to have kids around.

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of several generations living in the same house?

In my opinion, the most obvious benefit is having someone to rely on. As adults are now getting busier with work, it’s wonderful if they can count on their grandparents to take care of little children at home. In return, old people would also be well looked after by their offspring in case they fall ill. However, there are quite a number of problems when different generations live together under the same roof. Due to generation gap, arguments and conflicts are inevitable, leading to unnecessary stress at home. Also, when the grandparents get too frail and are unable to perform physical activities, they might become a burden for working adults who are already overwhelmed with their workload and taking care of their little ones.
