Is it easy for people to relax today? Why?
Well, yes and no. People now can enjoy a wide range of leisure facilities and services like spas and resorts. Technological advancement has made it easier and more convenient for them to relax with cutting-edge gadgets like massage chairs at home. The thing is, people tend to pursue a hectic lifestyle these days so they barely have time to unwind and calm down their restless mind.
What facilities can help people relax at home?
I suppose people can watch their favorite shows on TV or just have a bath. They can also practice yoga or meditation to destress and boost their concentration ability. Particularly, some people might be at ease in their tiny kitchen or garden because they are passionate about cooking or gardening, which serves as a therapy for them.
Do you think there should be classes teaching people how to relax?
Yes, I do think so. As a matter of fact, there are a myriad of yoga and mindfulness courses and tutorials available on the Internet and in wellness centers too. While it’s easy to let our body rest just by sleeping, having a bath or getting a massage, I guess most people have difficulty relaxing their mind because they can handle chronic stress and anxiety.
Who need more rest? Young or old people?
While people of all ages need relaxation, I believe old people might need more time to rest than their younger counterparts. This is because young people tend to have a greater energy reserve so they can work several hours straight without taking breaks or stay up several nights consecutively without feeling tired. Old people, on the other hand, have to cope with health decline so they need to rest almost after every physical effort.
Do you think people now have more time to relax than they did in the past?
I’m afraid I disagree. People now tend to have less time for leisure activities. In the past, people used to work hard but their working day ended when they left the office. Today, it’s easy to bring work home just with a computer or a smartphone. Many people have to work late at night or even during weekends and as a result, they don’t have sufficient time to spend with family or friends. They tend to neglect their need for meaningful social interactions, which might put them at risk of developing depression and anxiety.
