What kinds of public facilities are available in your area?

Do you think public facilities in Vietnam are good? How to improve them?

What kinds of people often use public facilities? (old or young people?)

What are the advantages of public facilities?

Where do people in your community usually have social gatherings?

How to encourage people to use public facilities?

  • Why do some people not accept changes?

The way I see it, a lot of people don’t welcome changes possibly due to fear of the unknown or doing something new . Since they aren’t used to it, they might do it wrong and thus embarrass themselves. Another reason is because of their self-interest and greed. Some simply don’t want to sacrifice money or effort to make a change happen in the first place.

  • Do you think change is good or bad?

In general, change seems positive if it is intended for the benefit of a majority of people. Otherwise, change could be detrimental when it stems from people’s self-interest. For example, in developing countries where corruption is high, the government may approve some construction or exploitation projects that damage local environment and natural resources. Still, I believe change is a driving force of development.

  • Why are people living in a community friendly with each other?

I suppose the most obvious reason is that they share a sense of belonging to the same community. Since they see each other on a regular basis, it is natural for them to establish a close-knit bond. Also, neighbours tend to be kind to one another just in case they might need help. Life is full of ups and downs as well as unexpected situations so it’s best to have someone next door to rely on.

  • Where do people in your community usually have social gatherings?

Well, let me see. In the countryside, every village has its own cultural centre or a pagoda with a huge yard where local people usually gather together. Small gatherings like weddings are usually held in their own houses. In big cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city, however, I can see a range of public spaces such as city squares, parks, pedestrian streets and so on. All in all, I don’t think it’s hard to find a place for social life and community building in Vietnam.

  • What kinds of public facilities are available in your city?

Well, I’m currently living in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, so there is a wide range of public facilities. For our essential needs, we have water & electricity supply and hospitals. For our entertainment, religion & leisure activities, parks, pagodas, zoos, museums, theatres, libraries and many others are within a short distance. Overall, I find it convenient and quite comfortable living here.
