Well, I’m not a creature of habit but I do have a morning routine I’d like to switch into what my friend does. While he starts his new day with practicing yoga or cycling, I stay in bed browsing social media until 8.am every single day. I wish I could nurture a healthy morning habit like that of my friend.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, he used to cycle around the lake in my neighborhood, which is immense and quite scenic. However, since the pandemic hit and we had to comply with social distancing and lockdown rules, he has switched to practicing meditation or mindfulness. These types of recreational activities make him well-prepared for his new day no matter how tough it might be. Perhaps, this invigorating lifestyle has enabled him to lead a fulfilling life without becoming burnt out (exhausted). Sure, he’s a high achiever but I’ve never seen him in low spirits. He always looks cheerful and energetic with a ready smile on his face.
I, on the other hand, always look pale and exhausted. Especially during this weird period of isolation, I’ve been trapped in a sedentary lifestyle. I tend to waste a whole day checking social media updates, surfing the Internet, playing video games and watching TV. I’ve never thought one day I would become a couch potato but I am now. It’s high time for me to face the reality and take concrete actions. I know breaking a bad habit is quite a big deal but I will work on it little by little. Perhaps, I should start by exercising for 5 minutes tomorrow’s morning.
