I’d like to tell you about the chairman of the hospitality holding company I’m currently working for. He is truly a self-made billionaire, a visionary entrepreneur and a great leader. He has built his extensive business from scratch and that’s why people look up to him.
What I admire the most about this distinguished chairman is the way he treats his subordinates. Although he holds the highest position in a thriving corporation, he never appears to be full of self-importance. In contrast, he is super friendly and down to earth. He keeps telling us how our contributions have made a difference and always tries to make us smile even in toughest situations. When it comes to work, however, he is extremely serious. He prefers to lead by example and always expects us to put our heart and mind into the tasks at hand.
I remember taking part in a corporate marketing project which he was in charge of right after I landed the job. I knew I was so fortunate to be able to join such a crucial mission. The chairman provided our team with the big picture, emphasized what we should strive for and let us figure out how to do it on our own. He was excellent at keeping us focused on delivering results. Although he wasn’t my direct manager, I’ve learnt a lot from him. His motto is “Think big. Do smart!”, which always reminds me to think out of the box and take initiatives, not only at work but also in my personal life. He has exerted a tremendous influence on all his employees, including me and I hope to become a shrewd and passionate leader like him one day.
