What kinds of flowers do you like?

Well, I love all of them. Each type is charming in its own way but if I’m in a flower shop, I will look for daisy, baby’s breath or lavender first. These tiny blossoms are delicate,  elegant and not too flamboyant. I also adore flowers with an exquisite fragrance like grapefruit flowers. They smell like heaven.

Are there any special flowers in Vietnam?

Absolutely. Lotus holds a significant meaning in Vietnamese culture. It is synonymous with elegance, integrity and dignity. I remember having learned a remarkable poem that praises lotus’ charm as “incomparable” despite its growing out of dirty mud.

Have you planted any flowers?

Of course. Back in elementary school, we used to learn how to grow and take care of various types of native flowers. Now I’m living in one of the busiest commercial hubs of Hanoi and my gardening skills have declined but I’m still keeping several pots of flowers in my tiny apartment.

Have you given flowers to someone as a gift?

Definitely. A bouquet of freshly-picked flowers has always been my number-one choice for a gift, especially on birthdays, housewarming parties or grand opening parties. Having mastered specific meanings associated with various kinds of flowers, I believe I can now advise others like a real florist.
