Some people think that learning to play team sports is an important part of a child’s education. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent years, sports have become an integral part of modern life. It has been proposed by some that children should be taught how to play team sports at school. I strongly agree with this notion and this essay will elaborate on my reasons.

Admittedly, including team sports in school curricula might have certain drawbacks. In most schools, students already have too many subjects to focus on while learning group sports such as football or basketball might be time-consuming. Besides, incorporating this subject in the curriculum may place additional burdens on schools as (=because) sports facilities, coaches and administrative officers would be needed.

However I advocate teaching children how to play team sports at school because the benefits of this are far greater. Unquestionably, practicing sports can boost students’ physical and mental well-being. When they are healthy, they stand a better chance of getting great academic achievements and leading an enjoyable life. Furthermore, learning to play team games can help children develop/ acquire essential skills such as cooperation and communication. In order to play well in a team, they must learn how to collaborate and support each other. Children might recognize the importance of encouraging and motivating others. Likewise, they will become more aware of listening to their teammates and discussing their tactics thoroughly before playing/ an important competition. Indeed, children with strong interpersonal skills are more likely to succeed later in life. 

In conclusion, although learning how to play team sports at school might be complicated and time-consuming, I believe it should be included in school curricula because its benefits are far more significant.
