To my dismay (= Unfortunately), the noisiest place I’ve been to is my neighbor’s house. I moved to this area in early 2019 and little did I know that it would be so noisy. 

My thoughtless neighbor often plays loud music day and night, even during odd hours like mid day or late night. The other day, I was teaching on Google Meet and all of a sudden, he played his favorite playlist on speakers at an extremely high volume. I was so petrified by the abrupt, deafening noise that I had to cancel the class.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if the music was comforting or relaxing. Unfortunately, he has an eccentric taste in music. He is a huge fan of 1970s ballad songs which are all about being heartbroken or betrayed in love. I find the music very depressing and given all the negativity going on around the world these days, having to listen to this kind of music just drives me crazy. 

As if this wasn’t enough, he doesn’t have a fixed schedule for these unwanted music shows. Since the Covid 19 pandemic, I’ve been working from home and my work has been interrupted by his deafening music countless times. Nothing is worse than being tortured by incessant , ear-splitting noise. 

I’ve made several complaints to the local authority but nothing has been done about it. I even decided to take matters into my own hands. I once came over to his house, politely asking him to turn down the volume but he refused to accommodate my request. Now I was in a dilemma about whether I should move out of this place or renovate my house to make it better resistant to disturbing noise. I think I should find a new place and get out of here as soon as possible. Next time, I’ll carefully check the neighborhood I’m moving into to ensure it is quiet and livable.
