Well, this topic reminded me of a crucial career decision I made a couple of years ago, which has changed my life altogether.
I was working for a travel company at that time but I was getting stuck. In the beginning, the work was fantastic and payment was attractive. However, the longer I was in it, the less motivated I became. There were always problems arising out of tour programs and they all needed immediate attention. I felt exhausted all the time and dreaded going to work every morning. The idea of quitting the job crossed my mind from time to time but I was so scared. I hadn’t come up with any specific plans yet. What should I do next, should I look for another job or should I start my own business which I had been contemplating for years? And what if I failed, how could I support myself?
On top of that, my dad had just gone through a critical surgery so my family’s financial situation didn’t look favourable. Perhaps, I should stay at my current job and wait until things improve. However, after struggling with the dilemma for nearly one month, I decided to take the more challenging route. Every business involves a certain degree of risk and I must cope with that. So I started to sell clothes online as a side hustle, which required little investment and less effort than opening a physical store. This also allowed me to test the water while keeping my main job.
I was happy with that decision because eventually I’ve gathered enough courage to step out of my comfort zone and rise to the challenge.
