The maps illustrate how a beach town named Ryemouth has changed/ developed since 1995.
Overall, the town has become more modern and tourist-friendly. Major developments/ changes include the expansion of residential areas, the construction of sports and leisure facilities, and the clearance of the fish market and the fishing port.
It is clear that the main housing area of the town has been expanded further to the north and the west in order to accommodate its growing population. Besides, the farmland and the forest park in the northeast have been cleared for the construction of a golf course and several tennis courts.
With regard to the beachfront area in the south, the fish market and the fishing port have been removed to make way for several luxurious seaside apartments. The cafe on the beach has remained unchanged whereas the shops across the fish market have been converted into/ replaced by new restaurants to cater to a greater number of tourists and locals. The hotel opposite to the cafe has stayed the same but a new car park has been added/ built next to it.
