The bar chart compares the average number of trips made by males and females in the UK for different purposes in 2007.
It is clear that people in the UK mainly commuted for work, shopping or visiting friends that year. In addition, men traveled for work, sports/entertainment and day excursions more often than women did while the average number of journeys made by women for the remaining purposes outnumbered that of men.
Specifically, in 2007 men commuted to work roughly 330 times on average compared to around 210 trips by women. In contrast, women made about 280 trips for shopping whereas men went shopping less than 200 times. As for visiting friends, women took nearly 210 trips, and this was marginally higher than the respective figure for their male counterparts.
With regard to other objectives, women took children to school over 140 times that year while men did so less than 100 times. For sports and entertainment purposes, however, the figure for males outnumbered that of females by 10 trips. Finally, both genders commuted the least for day trips.
