How can you define success?
What factors are important to success?
Why do some people work hard but not succeed?
What are the pros and cons of success?
Do you think successful people are happy or lonely?
Who should teach children to set goals?
What is success?
Well, success means different things to different people. In my opinion, individuals are seen as “successful” when they manage to overcome great obstacles and accomplish their primary purpose in life. It may be fulfilling a daring dream they had when they were little, building a strong family, rising to the top of the corporate ladder or creating a thriving business.
What leads to success?
I reckon that there is a wide range of factors that contribute to success. Innate gifts and talents or a privileged background may give someone a head start over others. For example, if an actor is born with exceptional natural beauty, he or she is more likely to become popular these days. However, I believe inherent qualities and money are not the deciding factors of success. Hard work and determination can result in substantial accomplishments and make a remarkable difference in the lives of less privileged people.
Why do some people work hard but not succeed?
That’s an interesting question. I reckon that they might lack focus or other essential skills such as setting goals and time management. When people are single-minded about a certain goal, they’re more likely to accomplish it than those who have too many goals or no goal at all. Anyway, I don’t think working hard is synonymous with being productive. People might work day and night and still achieve nothing significant because they’re not efficient with their time.
Do you think successful people are happy or lonely?
I’d say that they probably feel lonely more often than happy. Without a doubt, success can bring people a great sense of satisfaction. Nothing is comparable to the feeling of conquering an insurmountable challenge. However, I reckon that feeling might not last long as they may have a larger goal to strive for or face fierce competition to maintain their success. Because they can only rely on themselves most of the time, it’s natural for them to feel lonesome. Not to mention, people tend to be jealous of or intimidated by those who are incredibly successful, which also contributes to high-achievers’ loneliness.
- Should children have challenges?
Definitely. Hardship makes people stronger I believe. If children have an easy and indulgent life, they won’t be able to compete effectively in the future. Even worse, they would become a dependent, lazy and worthless individual. If young people have confronted some kinds of challenges and obstacles when growing up, they tend to develop better problem – solving skills, critical thinking skills and resilience.
- What challenges do children face? (band cao)
Well, most of them have to struggle with studying and peer pressure. Nowadays, most parents expect a lot from their children and push them really hard so that they can obtain outstanding academic achievements. This might put them under enormous pressure, leading to sleep deprivation and other severe mental problems such as anxiety and depression. As well as this, young people are highly vulnerable to peer pressure. They might become a victim of bullying or stress themselves by striving to have what their rich fellows have.
- What challenges is the world facing? (band cao)
That’s a tough question really. To be honest I have never truly paid close attention to international news or global concerns. Recently, however, I heard everyone talking about climate change, environmental pollution, medical crisis and economic downturn all over social media so I guess they must be what humans are struggling with.
- Who should be responsible for them? (band cao)
I believe the governments, businesses and individuals should all have a fair share of responsibilities in addressing these problems. For example, if policy makers come up with brilliant laws and regulations on environment protection but people fail to obey them or aren’t willing to mitigate their ecological footprints, then there wouldn’t be any significant progress. Everyone is leaving an impact on the earth, so without collective efforts, nothing can be solved I believe.
