The world is becoming increasingly interconnected and complicated, and so are the problems it is facing. Some people argue that its most pressing issues can only be tackled with joint efforts of all countries involved. I strongly agree with this assertion and this essay will elaborate on my reasons.

Admittedly, it is essential that nations take their own initiatives to solve their problems first. For example, impoverished countries should strengthen their law enforcement to combat rife corruption and boost economic activities. This would result in the fairer distribution of wealth and income in their society, creating better and more equal opportunities for all individuals to advance their lives. In other words, each country can effectively deal with a number of pressing problems such as hunger and poverty and social injustice provided that they have a transparent and strong governance.

However, I believe that major global issues can be sustainably addressed only if all nations work closely together. Take the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as an example, without international cooperation, humanity would never be able to tackle this medical crisis. If countries that have discovered viable vaccines prioritize their domestic markets and refuse to export these life-saving products to oversea markets, the virus would still grow strongly in unvaccinated regions and its threat would remain intact. Climate change is another massive challenge that cannot be addressed by local efforts alone. Unless all governments are committed to reducing their national carbon emissions to a safe level, it would be hard to stop global warming.
