Countries around the globe are seeking ways to boost their economic growth with a view to advancing people’s lives. This inevitably entails the disappearance of a number of crucial social values. I, however, incline to the view that economic development brings more benefits than drawbacks.
Admittedly, economic progress demands the sacrifice of certain social values. Since more emphasis is put on material wealth acquisition, people might become so occupied with work that they cannot spend enough time with their family. This may contribute to the decline of morals such as compassion and empathy among an increasing number of young people. Not to mention, rapid modernization and urbanization may lead to the disappearance of traditional customs and festivals that used to take place in rural communities decades ago.
However, I believe the positive impacts of economic advancement on people’s lives are greater than the mentioned downsides. Firstly, a growing economy helps create better employment opportunities and higher income. This would allow people to afford a more comfortable life with all their fundamental needs being met.
