Child care arrangement is a tough challenge facing busy working parents. Some people argue that day care centers are most appropriate for taking care of children while others believe that their family members can do a better job. This essay discusses both sides of the argument and then I will give my own perspective.

Supporters of child care services may claim that they provide qualified caregivers and better educational facilities. Their staff are professionally trained and certified by a competent authority so they should be more capable of looking after and disciplining a child. This is critical because children’s future depends on skills and experiences obtained during their formative years. In addition, these institutions are purposefully built and designed for babies or preschoolers, which might ensure a more secure and stimulating learning environement. Children can participate in carefully-planned activities and accumulate valuable life skills such as collaboration and interpersonal skills that are the key to their future accomplishments.

Nevertheless, those who rely on their extended family members for childminding also have compelling reasons to do so. Apart from cost savings, working parents can enjoy peace of mind when leaving their child to the care of their grandparents or other close relatives. Family tend to be more attentive and caring towards their offsprings than daycare workers who are just complete strangers. Moreover, family members deeply know and interact with their child on a personal basis so their care might be more relevant to the child’s physical and emotional needs. Finally, young people spending more time with their family will absorb moral values from their elders and are less likely to have behavioral issues later in life.

To conclude, both sides of the argument have their own merits. Depending on each family’s circumstance, young parents should select the option which is most convenient, affordable and suitable for them. (302 words)
