I’ve been a huge fan of astronomy documentaries on TV since I was little. There are so many mysteries about the universe waiting for us to discover you know. So, to satisfy my insatiable curiosity, I used to climb on the rooftop terrace of my house and admire the mind-blowing night sky in solitude. A sparkling sky with billions of stars has never failed to amaze me. Actually, my dad was my very first teacher as he taught me the basics of astronomy, especially the constellations. At first, I had a hard time trying to get my head around such unfamiliar terms. I could only spot the Milky Way and a handful of star clusters. However, the more I dig into this subject, the more enthusiastic I’ve become. Did you know that we always see the sun as it was about 8 minutes ago? This is because objects in space are so distant that it takes a lot of time for their light to reach us and the sun’s light takes about 8 minutes. Besides, I thought there was only one galaxy in the universe and I had no idea why the Sun is a star but the Earth is called a planet. So you must know how intrigued I was when finally being able to grasp some fundamental concepts of astronomy.
Sometimes when watching a meteor dashing across the sky, I wish I had a proper telescope so that I could gaze at those mysterious lights through a Hi-tech device rather than with naked eyes. Perhaps, I should start saving from now.
