Did you learn about environmental protection at school?

Yes, but mainly theoretical stuff like what the ecosystem is and what causes global warming, climate change and the like. Back then, we only focused on our core academic subjects and the environment was obviously not one of them. I believe that’s why most young people have failed to take concrete actions to protect our natural world despite being aware of environmental issues.

What do you do to protect the environment?

Well, as a nature enthusiast, I’m pursuing a simple lifestyle and trying in every possible way to reduce my carbon footprint. I say no to disposable plastic products, use energy-efficient household appliances, limit unnecessary travel and recycle as much as I can. 

Do you think people in Vietnam are doing their best to protect the environment?

Unfortunately no. Despite all the ongoing environmental crises, Vietnamese people in general are too occupied with making a living to pay attention to anything else. Many litter on the beaches and streets or throw away a vast number of disposable items every single day. I hope there would be stricter laws to discourage these reckless behaviours.

Would you like to work in an environmental protection organization?

That’s exactly what I aspired to do when graduating from university. I’d love to work close to nature and make a big difference like what extraordinary environmentalists have been doing. Recently, I’ve become a huge fan of Gretta Thunberg, a Swedish activist. She is truly a phenomenon.
