Để viết tốt một email ngắn đơn giản bằng tiếng Anh, bạn cần nắm được language functions cho từng mục đích giao tiếp của email như dưới đây (ngôn ngữ chức năng: chào hỏi, cảm ơn, gợi ý, yêu cầu, nhắc nhở…và nói tạm biệt.

1. GREETING expressions (Chào hỏi)

Dạng bài viết tin nhắn này thường là viết cho người thân quen nên chúng ta dùng ngôn ngữ thân mật, trừ khi đề bài yêu cầu dùng Dear, dùng Hi là tốt nhất: Hi + name hoặc Hi Mom (Mỹ: Mom, UK: Mum), Hi dad, Hi Uncle Jim. Một số cụm khác:

– Hello … , or Hello … !

– Hey … ! (chỉ bạn bè)

– Dear … , (với người hơn tuổi/ thầy cô…)

2. LANGUAGE functions (ngôn ngữ chức năng – tùy mục đích)

– INVITING: mời ai đó làm gì đó : Would you like to come over for dinner?

Would you like to come over…?

Do you want to…?

I’d like you to come…

Why don’t you come…

– REMINDING: nhắc ai đó nhớ làm gì đó
